What is Endodontics?

Endodontics deals with diagnosing and treating problems affecting the dental pulp (the soft tissue inside the tooth). When the pulp is infected due to decay or trauma, root canal treatment is needed to save the tooth and prevent further complications.

Common Endodontic Procedures

  • Root Canal Therapy (RCT): Involves removing the infected pulp, cleaning the root canals, and filling them to prevent infection. A crown or filling restores the tooth’s strength.
  • Endodontic Retreatment: If a root canal fails or infection returns, we can reopen and clean the root canals again to prevent future infection.
  • Apicoectomy (Endodontic Surgery): A small incision is made to remove infected tissue at the root tip when traditional root canal therapy isn’t enough.
  • Traumatic Injury Treatment: For cracked or knocked-out teeth, endodontic treatment can save the tooth. Immediate care increases the chance of success.
  • Pulp Capping and Vital Pulp Therapy: For exposed pulp without infection, pulp capping encourages healing and prevents infection, often used for small cavities or injuries

Signs You Might Need a Root Canal

  • Severe tooth pain when chewing or touching the tooth
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers
  • Swelling or tenderness around the tooth
  • Darkening of the tooth
